More Than Me

I started this daily inspiration blog in hopes of reaching people with a message that could encourage and lift the spirits.  Some how, I imagined having hundreds of readers stop by  daily  to flood each post with comments about how relevant and helpful they found the message.  Well, after about four and a half months in, I became discouraged (not completely, just a little bit).  The list of supporters slowly grew to 14 and comments are sparse so I figured perhaps what I was doing wasn't as significant as I'd hoped it would be.  I allowed myself to skip multiple days - nobody was reading anyway right? WRONG!!!  I recently got an email from a friend in Slovakia telling me he was reading my little blog and rather enjoyed it.  WOW!!! Today's Inspiration Out of sight is NOT always out of mind   The advent of instant sharing and social networking has many of us spoiled.  If we update our Twitter or Facebook status, comments and 'likes' f...

Pride Step Aside

There came a point in my daily work responsibilities where I had to edit a Wiki page. A wiki is a website that allows the easy creation and editing of web pages using a markup language or text editor.  I'm not a web designer or developer but I have tested and even written basic HTML so I figured wiki creation would be a breeze.  Before starting on my first page, I looked over existing wiki pages, reviewed the mark up text and asked a subject matter expert for tips and tricks that would ensure I did everything properly. When I finished my Wiki page (that I copied from an existing page by the way), there were so many things wrong that even the most seasoned Wiki editors in my department couldn't figure out how I made such simple page look so... WRONG.  They don't let me touch wiki pages anymore. Today's Inspiration Knowing Your Limitations Can Be Your Greatest Strength As children, many of us were taught to try our  hardest and be the best. Fess Up

My fourth grader is learning long division in school.  After a less than acceptable progress report, I spoke with his teacher and found that, though my son had memorized the steps he should take to solve each problem, he was making critical errors and mis-applying concepts.  These errors had directly affected his math grade so I knew he needed some extra assistance. Since my oldest son enjoys math, I asked him to check little brother's homework tonight.  As I expected, several answers were wrong.  When we pointed out errors and questioned how he might have made mistakes, my younger son acted as if he really knew the answers though clearly, he didn't. Being the wiser of the two, my older son sat down at the table and told his littler brother "Stop trying to pretend you know.  Once we get past what you don't know, we can get this right." Today's Inspiration Admit it when you don't get it;  We cannot Learn what we think we Know It can sometimes be hard t...
