Pogo Stick
One evening I wanted to hear a new song "Closer" by Corinne Bailey Rae. I jumped back and forth between the three radio stations that would likely play it. While station surfing, I heard another song I like (can't even remember what it was now) and took a pause from my search to enjoy it. When I commenced to surfing again, low and behold, I caught the tail end of the song I wanted to hear in the first place. Dang IT!!
Ever feel like you're floating like the leaf fresh blown from a tree? So many things to get done, so many obligations and desires. Life is good at pulling us in different directions and frankly, can wear out the strongest of us if we're not careful.
When we have goals, we must plant our feet and nurture ourselves firmly with the thoughts and actions that will help us achieve them. It is easy to be distracted by noise or discouraged by slow progress. If real obstacles or diversions present themselves (i.e, emergencies and such), we should address them expeditiously so that we may return our focus to the matter at hand - getting to that next level. As for anything that is not an earth shattering priority, we must be humble and strong in our resolve so that we can find the will to resist the temptation to waste precious time and energy on frivolous activity.
A break to ease tension is welcome and even recommended but should not pull us so far away from our path that we have trouble getting back to business. Slow and steady progress may feel like no progress at all - especially when we're giving but seeing little return on our investment. We may sometimes feel like devoting so much energy to a bare patch of land is an act of futility. Don't be discouraged though. Like the farmer who tends to his crops beginning in early Spring but only reaps a harvest in Fall, we too shall realize the fruits of our labor if we work diligently toward that singular spark within.
