Get it In
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I've been blessed to work on a book project that will affect and inspire many people - this is my sincere hope and prayer anyway.
At any rate, when I found out about the project I was undoubtedly excited and ready to write. Every time I sat down though, it was extremely challenging to translate my thoughts into words on paper. Some call it writer's block I call it torturous frustration.
I've been writing for some time now and usually, my thoughts flow onto the paper quite naturally so the sudden onset of blankness was both disappointing and scary. I put my pad away and politely stared focusing my attention on the plethora of other equally important tasks before me - everything EXCEPT writing. I got deep into laundry (anyone can tell you I HATE laundry), household projects and anything else that could be excused as 'necessary' and therefore a worthy excuse for me to not face my fear - I wouldn't be able to submit anything worth reading. I would come up with a line here or there but, because I was afraid to write during that period, I didn't record anything. Ask me what I came up with and we'll both be waiting on an answer.
A dear friend of mine listened to me whine one day - no I had no valid complaint though the fear was as real as I am alive - and after sitting through my violin solo of can'ts, don'ts and won'ts, he simply said to me. "It'll come, don't worry about it." Once I let go of my fear, forgot about word counts and dismissed deadlines, a piece of my soul was revealed as a carefully crafted composition of approximately 6200 words.
Sometimes in life, it can be extremely difficult to take the first step in the direction of foreign space - the land of the unknown - due to fears and uncertainties, doubts and distractions. If we let fears and obstacles weigh us down like sandbags at our feet, we risk blocking the world from the vision of beauty that is our gift - we never see how spectacular we have been built, never know just how powerful we are.
If we resolve that we are going to make a move in the direction of the future we desire despite obstacles, we may just find capability beyond our current capacity and strength for the long haul.
There's no magic pill or super secret to treading the waters that impede forward progress - if there was, I'd be trying to bottle it for sure. There are simply times where we must do what we must do. So go ahead and get it started - then FINISH. Drop by and let me know how well it went.
