Perspective Changes Things
At one point in my career, I was absolutely certain that I worked for the worst company in the whole universe. I'd come into the office MAD. I'd leave the office MAD. If you asked me about work outside the office guess what? I'd get MAD all over again.
It seemed like the more I complained – even when I only fumed to myself – the worse my sitation became until I was completely fed up.
I connected with an older gentleman who worked on my floor. We'd talk daily – he did most of the listening – about how I was fairing in my department and the challenges I faced. Once he was sure I felt comfortable he asked me a pressing question.
"Why is everything SO bad? Is there anything good going on?" I did not have an answer for his query.
Today's Inspiration
Change the way you look at the world; the world you look at will change
We've all heard the sayings "When life gives you lemons make lemonade" or "Life is what you make it" but what about what others do to make our lives what they are?
It is true that we are affected by matters outside our control. When the actions of others bring fortune to us we love it, but when misfortune results, not so much. If that is the case, what do those perky quotes really mean?
Though some situations we face may not be ideal - and not of our doing - we CAN choose the angle of our views. Either we see our problems or our solutions; the clouds or the silver lining. By deciding to seek the good in situations, we can keep our energy positive. With a positive mindset, solutions seem closer at hand and problems feel minimized.
It would be foolish to suggest that we ignore the unpleasantries of life – even the negative experiences we face hold value. Addressing problems is a requisite to survival and success so rather than ignoring problems or pretending everything is good, choose to give problems the energy required to develop a solution but no more than that.
Through practice we can develop a habit of looking at our issues as a series of opportunities to learn and grow. There is a lesson in adversity and strength for every triumph. With the right outlook, you'll find the treasure in your trials…
